We've had a busy and very successful summer of singouts. Barbershoppers from other chapters are amazed at how many performances we do a year. Some years summer attendance at rehearsals has understandably lagged but this year has been great -- keeps the energy going. Please remember that fall is a great time to invite that guy (or work on that guy) you've been thinking would enjoy and add to our group. Any rehearsal is a good one right now for new guys, and we will make every effort to make them feel at home.
We have a couple of jobs that I am hoping someone from our group will volunteer to take on.
Librarian:
This person sees that our music is in good order, puts away music after rehearsal, stamps new music and makes folders for it, keeps track of our learning CD's, and sees that we have adequate copies of the songs we're singing (that involves a trip to Office Services where we have an account for making copies). Time commitment is about 10 minutes at rehearsal each week and about 2 hours one afternoon during the month when we get new music in.
High School Outreach:
The board made a decision to help send local high school boys to the Barbershop Camp in Colorado in June. It was in Estes and cost $25 (we sent 7 boys one year); it was moved last year to Lamont School of Music and costs $75). This person needs to be reading the Rocky Mountain District newsletter looking in March for the camp details (if you don't see the info, Tony Pranitis is our contact), be at the board meeting in March to see if we want to send boys again and how much we want to pay toward their expenses, send out the info to the area school music teachers (I have a list of names and email addresses), send the check to the schools (this year they registered right on line and used a credit card and we reimbursed) and invite them to a rehearsal in late summer/fall to share their experiences. Once you get your email base done, it doesn't take a lot of time, but we need someone who is responsible for this. I am inundated with music events in March/April/ May and this important part of our chapter's outreach doesn't get the attention it needs and deserves.
