David Lloyd Farris
Since 2005 Dave Farris has been the director of the Overland Stage Chorus, bringing to this men’s singing group forty years’ experience as a director of choruses and choirs. In June of 2008, Dave took a sabbatical and returned again as director in November of 2009. His experience with men singing four-part harmony began while he was a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. First, when he directed the Second Brigade Soldiers’ Chorus at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and later the Fort Ord Soldiers’ Chorus in California. Serving with distinction in Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star in 1968, and in 1970 was identified among the Outstanding Young Men of America. With a master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri he has had a long career in public school, college and university, and church choral music, as well as the world of business and finance. Presently he is associated with Alphapointe, which serves the seeing impaired and blind in Kansas City, Missouri. Married to Cynthia Egger, a Kansas City classical guitarist, he is the father of two daughters who have given him four grandchildren.
