Who we are

"Equally Delinquent" is a registered barbershop quartet in the Rocky Mountain District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. EQD has been registered since October of 2008 but actually has a long and colorful history. Following a love for harmony, Maury Kramer, Lead, was encouraged to check out a group of men that got together every Tuesday night to sing vocal four part harmony. He and friend, Brian Smith, Bass, headed off for Ogallala, Nebraska to sing with the Cowboy Capital Chorus. This would have been about 2004 or so. It was there that Maury and Brian met Steve Schwartzkopf and the two began the journey to form a quartet.

The first quartet, named "Three Spares and a Flat" part of the time and "Nightshift" the other, included Maury as Lead, Steve singing Tenor, and Brian as Bass, with Dan Schmidt taking the Baritone part. This first informal quartet entertained at many functions throughout that first year including local 'Annual Meetings' and Christmas shows. Their following grew and the quartet gained many loyal and gracious fans. Job changes forced Dan to move on and Toby Hansen stepped up from the chorus to lend a hand. Toby then became a regular and the quartet continued to entertain.

June 2006 saw another change as Brian moved on and Maury twisted the arm of long time friend, Dan Kafka, to fill the Bass position. Admittedly, Dan was resistant to join but soon was smitten by the ringing chords and camaraderie of the quartet. The informal quartet changed their name to "Pulse" and continued to increase their repertoire and sound. The two years that "Pulse" entertained were valuable learning and maturing years. The singouts increased in number and quality leading to more formal shows and openings for other local acts. These formative years were instrumental in developing the sound and following that is known today. Each of the former members are valued for their contribution and remembered fondly.

Major changes came for the quartet beginning in May of 2008. Chris Garcia, Tenor, came aboard, Steve moved to Baritone, and the quartet formally registered as "Equally Delinquent". It took some time to reorganize and hone the sound but we believe it was worth the wait. "Equally Delinquent" has developed a slightly different barbershop sound with emphasis on Doo-wop and other 50's and 60's sounds while still maintaining the classic barbershop favorites.

We continue to work hard to improve the sound and refine the presentation. We are indebted to the many folks who have coached us including Susan Kelton, CCC Director, and Donna Johnson, CCC Playwright. Their help and encouragement is always appreciated. Special thanks goes to Rich Knight of " The Gashouse Gang" and Jonny Moroni of " Vocal Spectrum" for the quality coaching we received at Harmony College.
