Women Helping Women

Each Christmas, a collection of wish list items and money donated by the Capital
Chordettes is amassed and delivered to Cornerstone Housing for Women. This
organization provides emergency housing and supportive services to women in
need in our region. The Chordettes are privileged and pleased to be able to
give to women who need assistance, the basic necessities of life.

December 5, 2015 - Christmas Market and Concert
‘Tis the season to be Jolly!
The Capital Chordettes entertained an appreciative audience with seasonal
favorites at its Christmas Market and Concert, held at the Ron Kolbus Centre on
December 5, 2015. In addition to great singing, the Chordettes offered a
variety of gift items at craft, jewellery and bake tables, in a basket raffle,
and silent auctions.

A highlight of this annual event was a donation presented to Bambina Lemme from
Children At Risk by Cathy Thompson. Autism is the chosen charity of the Capital
Chordettes and they financially support Children at Risk through their fundraising
efforts. |

December 10 - Singing for Seniors
Joyful sounds of harmony filled the halls when the Capital Chordettes arrived
at the Kanata senior’s luncheon on Dec 10. The Chordettes wowed their audience
with their colorful holiday vests, their beautiful harmony and the sharing of
favorite Christmas memories. While waiting for a delicious turkey luncheon,
complete with all the trimmings, the seniors were treated to some of their
favorite Christmas Carols performed by the Capital Chordettes. A sing-a-long
followed and everyone had the chance to sing their favorite songs of the
season. It was a fun afternoon and a good time was had by all.
CAROLLING FOR CHRISTMAS
The Chordette “Elves” spent a busy month of December bringing harmony to many
organizations. If you were passing through the Rideau Center this holiday season
you may have caught the sounds of Christmas carolling.

The Capital Chordettes had several groups of singers strolling through the halls
bringing their special blend of harmony to the shoppers. The smiling faces and
appreciate audience made for some very special moments.

Singing for Seniors
|
Sunday afternoon, June 14, 2015 brought a special treat to the residents of the
Alta Vista Manor when the Capital Chordettes dropped in with their special
blend of harmony. After performing several songs the Chordettes invited the
seniors to sing along. Everyone had a great afternoon! In fact, one residence
made it a point to say “I enjoyed the performance and then added how wonderful
it was because the music brightened the lives of all the seniors.”

The Battle of the Barbershops

On May 23, 2015 the Capital Chordettes took part in a musical fundraiser in
support of Christian Counselling Ottawa. The Men from the Capital City Chorus
took on the Women from the Capital Chordettes in the “Battle of the
Barbershops”. It was a fun filled evening as each chorus put their best voices
forward while competing for supremacy. The Capital City Chorus was declared the
big winners by the audience and celebrity judges.

Songs For A Canadian Spring!

On April 11, 2015, Group Therapy joined the Manotick Brass Ensemble and the
engaging jazz pianist Armas Maiste in “Canadian Spring”, a concert of “warming
and eclectic music after a long, cold winter”. The quartet performed a variety
of favourite songs, all “warmly” received. The concert was part of a series
sponsored by the Barrhaven United Church.” |
A Wish Made In Canada
On March 19, 2015, the Chicks joined other performers at the Lower Town Brewery
in the Byward Market, for “A Wish Made In Canada”, a fund-raiser for the
Children’s Wish Foundation organized by students of Algonquin College’s Event
Management program.
Singing in 4-part harmony the Chicks wowed their audience with two favorite
Canadian songs. The first written & made famous by Canadian composer,
Shania Twain’s – “Any man of mine” set the audience toe-tapping and singing
along. The Chicks ended their performance with Rise Again, written by Leon
Dubinsky and recorded by Cape Breton’s own – the Rankins
