Meet Untamed
Untamed was formed in 2004 and is an active member of the Barbershop
Harmony Society. We sing four-part men’s acappela music and
have developed a broad repertoire of acapella songs including classic
barbershop, as well as show tunes, popular music, holiday songs, do-wop
and inspirational and patriotic music.
The quartet enjoys
popularity among audiences ranging from children to senior citizens and
has performed for audiences ranging in size from 20 to 5000.
Performance highlights include an appearance at the Iridium Jazz Club
in Manhattan as a guest of Les
Paul, famed electric guitar
inventor (while Frankie Avalon
watched and listened with a smile!). We are almost famous…

Jim
Maitland – Tenor
Jim
grew up in Bergen County New Jersey. He participated in the youth
choir at church and played the french horn in the school band. Later,
he took a break from music to become the captain of the swim team at
Hackensack High School, then continued swimming for William Paterson
University. It wasn't until years after graduating from college that he
realized that he wanted to get back into music, especially singing.
Always fascinated with
the Osmond brothers, Jim wanted to know how to form a barbershop
quartet. The answer presented itself when a local PBS station aired a
documentary on the Vocal Majority chorus. The broadcast included
information on the Barbershop Harmony Society, and Jim
joined the Morris Music Men in 1998. After singing lead and baritone,
he switched to tenor in 2002 and joined The Bell Tones quartet. He then
moved west and joined up with the Hunterdon Harmonizers, where he and
Rich Cronce (bass of The Bell Tones) helped form "Untamed".
Jim works as the
Director of Information Services for Boiling Springs Savings Bank in
Rutherford, New Jersey. He is married and has three energetic
youngsters to keep up with.

Pat
Cerillo – Lead
Pat
began singing as a child (although his mother says it was
“more like whining”). He obtained a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Music performing in both voice and trumpet; and a degree
in Political Science. He is an attorney in private practice.
Pat saw his first
Barbershop Show when the Hunterdon Harmonizers returned from the 1997
International Contest and performed a concert at a local community
college. He was moved by the thought of performing Barbershop music.
Pat joined the Hunterdon Harmonizers in 1998 and has been performing in
the Chorus and in registered quartets ever since. Among the most
memorable personal Barbershop moments for Pat are winning the Rahway
Valley Novice Contest, performing at the Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway
in New York City as a guest of Les Paul, performing at the New Jersey
State Fair, and doing special concerts for churches and nursing homes.
Pat sings lead in
UNTAMED and is married with a quartet of children, none of whom wish to
sing with him! (Kids...what are you gonna do?)

Jeff
Winik - Bass
Jeff has
been barbershopping for 19 years as a member of various
barbershop choruses, most recently with the Princeton Gardenstatesmen
and the Brothers In Harmony (then in Easton PA). He has sung bass with
a number of quartets including Sounds Academic, Sound Discovery,
Generations…Apart (in which his then 10-year old son sang
tenor), The Firm, Crossroads, Vocaholics and Sound Barrier. He has also
been a faculty member on staff with M-AD’s Harmony College
East, coaching high school kids in the barbershop style. Jeff also has
a serious classical streak, having sung with Princeton Pro Musica for
the past 4 years. Often active with community theater in the New
Brunswick area, he has had roles in Cabaret, 1776, The Music Man (six
times!), HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, and The Fantastiks.
Jeff lives in South Brunswick with his wife Judie and their dog
Whiffer. He has two sons, and is proud to be a new grandfather of
twins.

Brian
Lipe - Baritone
Brian
joined the Barbershop Harmony Society while living in sunny
Southern California in 1990. Prior to that, he was a member of the
Men's Glee Club at the University of Illinois. A job transfer brought
him to New Jersey in the early nineties, and he’s been trying
to escape to Florida ever since! In the meantime, singing with Untamed
keeps him from losing his mind. Before that, Brian sang baritone in
Vocaholics for five years and four trips to the Mid-Atlantic District
competition. Voice Activation was his prior foursome, at the time the
top quartet in the Hunterdon Harmonizers, where he remains a member.
The highlight of his barbershop career was performing in the front row
with Hunterdon at the International Competition in Indianapolis in
1997.
By day, Brian is a
Director in the Risk Division of a major international bank in
Manhattan, but isn’t allowed to look at the money. He has a
Masters Degree, hence he is required to wear glasses. He resides in
Westfield, NJ with his wife, three kids, and one dog. Brian is way
older than he looks.
