Living Skies Chorus Barbershop Harmony Society, Regina Chapter |
What Is Barbershop?
Although the barbershop style of vocalization had its beginnings in the last century, it was the stages of vaudeville
that brought barbershop harmony to the public limelight. With the advent of radio and the demise of the travelling minstrel shows,
the art of the musical form began to disappear. To preserve this glorious sound, 26 men formed the original Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) which has recently been renamed to the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Society now boasts a membership of over 40,000 members world wide.
The Regina chapter is proud of its 40+ years of contribution
to the arts and to the community as a whole. While singing mostly
for their own enjoyment; the chorus quartets associated with it,
perform throughout western Canada and the United States. There
have been a great many appearances in hospitals, nursing homes,
senior citizens residences, churches and youth groups; thereby
bringing the sound of music to all aspects of the community.
The LIVING SKIES Chorus and its member quartets welcome the
opportunity to sing at the proverbial "drop of a hat"!
Arrangements can be made for us to entertain at conventions,
meetings and banquets for a minimal fee.
