Are you REALLY promoting your chapter?

I ask this question and get answers like "we always do best for our show," or "the newspapers didn't come to our Open House, so we don't invite them any more."

Think I'm kidding? Wish I were.

So here's the challenge - finding ways to get your name in the newspaper or on TV in addition to your show. So let's be creative:

  • Any father/son duos in your chapter?
  • Any charter members of the chapter?
  • Any business executives or small business owners?
  • Any grandfathers with grandkids who like to sing?
  • Any Boy Scouts singing our songs?
  • Any quartets singing in schools?
  • Any donations to hospitals or other cause?
  • Any 20, 25, 30 year (or higher) members?
  • Intend to work with PBS station for their membership drives?
  • Participating in a parade or county fair?
  • Any biographies on your chapter officers?
  • Anyone have unusual hobbies in addition to being a singer?
  • Having a special performance for your show patrons?

Any of these make great stories and can be read at anytime - and your chapter is mentioned in addition to the show, participating in conventions, and other yearly activities.

Find the interesting aspects of chapter life, and share it. Over and over and over. The relationship building gets the promotion and free publicity, not the one-time-hit-or-miss approach. Show your media contacts that your chapter is full of interesting people, and does interesting activities for the community.

But how do you get this information assembled? Well, the chapter bulletin editor, secretary, historian and public relations officer work together to find it and channel it. Any of these items could make interesting bulletin reading, too, right? Isn't it easy?

Yep, all in a day's work. Y'all B#.
