Harmony & Jazz: A Different Kind Of Concert

In June 2010, the Sons of the Severn tried yet another outside-the-box idea for our annual show. Instead of hiring a champion quartet, we joined forces with guitar virtuoso (and Annapolis resident) Rob Levit and his masterful jazz trio for a collaborative concert. Everything about that night was different from any show we'd done in the past. From the intimate performing space to the pre-show cocktail hour, the luxurious Loews Annapolis Hotel provided the perfect setting for a memorable evening of music. The show was an enormous success, both financially and artistically, and we made some new friends in the Rob Levit Trio. Below, Rob shares his thoughts on the event:

"Collaborate with a barbershop chorus? My jazz band is way too hip for that! Or so I thought.

"The Rob Levit Trio had an awesome time collaborating with The Sons of the Severn at the Harmony and Jazz performance in June at the Loews Annapolis. Our music isn't really that different in many ways: it requires teamwork and cooperation, great listening skills and enthusiastic stage presence. So even though I was a little cautious at first, it was a great experience collaborating with a neat bunch of guys.

"I particularly enjoyed our rendition of Yesterday by Lennon/McCartney as well as the small group renditions. I am sure this will be the first of many collaborations with the Sons of the Severn and look forward to their performance at my Holiday Show in December. As long as the music is, well, musical, count me in. My memory of our collaboration was that the quality of the music was high, as were spirits. The entire 'tenor' of the evening was fantastic (OK, I couldn't resist!)."
