PROBEmoter is published quarterly and distributed by mail to all PROBE members. Membership in PROBE is open to anyone. Dues, $10.00 per year, are managed by the secretary-treasurer, and are payable by individuals or chapters.

Correspondence about PROBEmoter, content and contributions for publication should be sent to the editor.

Important notice

Beginning with the July-September 2003 issue, only a brief summary of the content of articles will be available online. The executive board made a decision to distribute full content only to PROBE members, and they will receive a copy in the mail, as always. For the time being, other content on the PROBE site will remain available to all. Those interested in the full text of articles can join PROBE by contacting Dick Girvin (contact information at the left), or online (link is on the main page of this site).

(in this issue)

  • PROBE: Reviewing 2003, looking at 2004
    • President Bruce Anderson looks back on PROBE successes and encourages a positive future.

  • From the editor's cauldron
    • In a guest editorial, former VP-BE Grant Carson discusses more pros and cons of print vs. online bulletins.

  • Frank Ridoux certified as L&R judge
    • Category Specialist for L&R Dick Girvin introduces the newest (recommended) judge.

  • New initiative to aid bulletin editors

  • J-School - Modifiers: Clarity comes first
    • Former IBC winner Tom Pearce continues the J-School with an entertaining and educational article about modifiers. (Ed. note: I especially liked the part about the men frozen in stainless steel tanks, but then Strunk and White always did make good reading.)

  • Frank Thorne Chapter Newsletter
    • An exchange of notes between Thom Hine, who has been just about all there is to be in barbershop, and Dom Nizza, editor and distributer of the newsletter.

  • Another year cometh
    • David Wagner, VP for Membership, outlines some PROBE directions. Are your editor, webmaster and director members?

  • PROBE meeting at the International convention
    • President Bruce Anderson announces the annual PROBE meeting and related events to be held in Louisville.

    By bass Bob Babcock
    • A bass fisher (?) with 30 years of PR experience offers tips for getting exposure - and money - for your chorus.

  • Singing Valentine planning
    • Chris Rimple, VP of Marketing & PR for Northwest Sound (Bellevue, Wash. Chapter) shares ways to make planning and carrying out a Singing Valentine program easy, well, okay, easier.

  • Online International Bulletin Contest
    • David Wagner explains some of the intricacies of the new online bulletin contest and differences from the "paper" IBC.

  • Do radio right
    • Reed Sampson provides tips for making a hit with your local radio stations.

  • United We Sing
Stand up for your country, in song!
    • Did the Holiday Chorus Program work for you? Reed Sampson describes a similar initiative, with scripts available for both United States and Canada.
