A whale of a time! From the Brockville, Ont., Chapter, Melodyline,Paul R. Sheppard, EDITORLast July's National Geographic features an article on humpback whales. One photo shows a whale nosing a microphone suspended from an underwater cable. The caption reads, in part, "Crooning to a distant audience, a humpback ... sings into a hydrophone. Scientists are unsure why males perform such songs... Some believe they are meant to attract females, but ... (one male) singer invariably draws (other) male joiners." Well, where's the mystery? Just ask a Barbershopper! We know why those fellows are singing together, don't we?
