2003 PROBE Outstanding Achievement Awards

The Association of Public Relations and Bulletin Editors is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2003 Outstanding Achievement Awards. Selection is based on Creativity, Impact, Exposure and Results. This award covers the preceding 12 months (July to July). This is the fourth year these OAAs have been presented. In no particular order, here are the best of the best barbershop PR efforts. Congratulations to all.

 

American Profile Magazine	for the outstanding cover story that appeared in the January 19/25, 2003 issue written by Michael Nolan featuring Barbershop Harmony and seen by approximately 13 million readers nationwide.
The Surftones of Florida	Frank Arnold, Dick Thomason, Jack Newcomer, Christopher Baker for several performances at Daytona International Speedway, most recently July 4th, 2002 for an audience of over 60,000 and for a September 19, 2002 performance for Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
San Angelo Texas Chapter	For organizing a performance of 200 + singers on the first anniversary of September 11. The San Angelo Men's Freedom Chorus, consisting of chorus members and local singers provided an inspiring event that attracted an audience of over 6,000 in a United We Sing type event and generating city-wide recognition and appreciation.
Jack Watters & Randy Burnett of Maryland	For organizing the performance for Flag Day of June 2003 where the combined choruses of Petapsco Valley, Dundalk & Baltimore, Maryland chapters sang at Fort McHenry for an enthusiastic crowd (7th year) of about 7000 to celebrate the birth of the U.S. Flag and the National Anthem.
Dr. Don Blank & Terry Beek of Nebraska	for organizing and promoting nearly 400 Nebraska barbershoppers to sing the National Anthem on August 29, August 31 and September 21, 2002 for University of Nebraska @ Lincoln, Omaha, and Kearney for an estimated total of 100,000 football fans.
West Town Sound of Colorado	Steve Jackson, Ted Cluett, Dr. Tony Pranaitis, Damian Berger for performing on the steps of the state capitol building, performing during a large interfaith service and the week-long Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations, and during the appearance of the Music Man Road Tour in Denver.
Lynn Hauldren of Chicago	For making "AudioFile", his unique collection of 12,000 songs from the late 1920's to the 1940s, available via the Society website to the membership and promoting donations to Harmony Foundation.
Michigan Jake	Drew Kirkman, Mark Hale, Joel Wilson, and Greg Hollander for their live appearance on ABC's "In Search of America", July 4th, 2002 hosted by Peter Jennings.
The Vocal Majority Chorus - Dallas	for the production of "A Vocal Majority Christmas," an hour-long Christmas television special produced by Dallas' JSP Creative and simulcast on the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex's CBS 11 television station and KRLD News Radio 1080 on Christmas Eve 2002.
Bill Galloway of Bedford/Sackville Chapter Nova Scotia.	for his supportive work promoting online communication for barbershoppers. It was his designing the chapter and Sunrise Division (NED) convention websites that created a successful presence for several chapters in his area and the convention.
