Back Following Taking a Holiday Break
We have returned following a holiday/Christmas break and are recharged and excited to get back singing with our riser buddies. Join us as we start the new year. Come out and find out about the music we sing, the style of music we enjoy so much, and why we come back to sing each week. |

Storm Surge Support
The Northern Stars Chorus encourages enjoyment of music and encourages singers, especially young singers. We enjoyed presenting Storm Surge, from South Carleton High School in Richmond, to our audience at our 2011 Spring Show. Chorus members enjoyed hearing their presentation of music and the feeling behind their music. To further demonstrate support for youth and Storm Surge and to say 'thank you', the chorus presented Storm Surge music teachers with financial support. Jennifer and Jamie noted this would help with purchase of equipment and music to enhance their perfomances at the school and elsewhere. We look forward to working with Storm Surge in the future.

Participation at the April 2011 Ontario District Convention Rewarding
In addition to the enjoyment of singing in front of 500 or so people at the April 2011 Ontario District Spring Convention in Collingwood and receiving the applause of very many appreciative people, the Northern Stars received the award and trophy for the 'Most Improved Chorus'.
We are pleased that all our dedication to singing, attention to detail, and improving our skills was recognized by the international judges at the convention competition. And we are pleased we will be passing this improved performance level along to you at our show on Saturday, 4 June.

Support for Sing Canada Harmony
and Cross Canada Youth Chorus
The Northern Stars Chorus believes that the future of sining is
with our youth. And to help ensure the future of singing in Canada
and the national capital area, the Chorus donated money toward assisting
the Cross Canada Youth Chorus to help them get to and compete in
Tampa, FL in February 2010.
Shown here is Peter Hall presenting a cheque to Digger MacDougall,
Chair of Sing Canada Harmony in support of youth singing and the
Cross Canada Youth Chorus. We are very pleased to have Sing Canada
Harmony as one of the charitable organizations we support.

23+ Years of Harmonizing
In September 2008 we celebrated 20 years of singing and entertaining.
Most of our members have been with us eight years or less and do
not have the experience of our rich, lengthy history.
To commemorate our milestone and achievements, we are collecting
photos, memories, personal experiences, newspaper articles, and
stories about the chorus over these 20 years. We haven't been around
as the Northern Stars all these 20 years. If you were a member or
were at one of our events, sing outs, etc. we are looking for your
information and photos. We are especialy interested in photos from
the first 10 years. We have a critical shortage of these.
Please take time and search through your 'old' photos for chorus
related pictures. If you are able to scan them (with decent resolution)
and send them to us, we would appreciate that very much. If you
are not able to scan them or if they are not in digital format but
in print or slide format, contact us. We will arrange to pick them
up, scan them, and return them to you. If you want to shorten the
process a little, contact Keith Lindsey directly.
We look foward to hearing from you and receiving your submissions.
And you can read a brief history here.
At the end of that page is a link to a slide
show of the chorus over the years. |

Interested in Singing or Singing
More Often?
We are always ready to welcome singers. Whether you're
- an experienced or new singer,
- interested in exploring the world of a cappella,
- needing a night out,
- interested in meeting new people, or
- you just enjoy making music,
you should come to a meeting and find out about the Northern Stars
Chorus.
You don't have to be able to read music and you don't have to worry
if you think you voice isn't ready for singing with others. Many
of us started the same way. And we are enjoying singing a cappella
music each week with our friends. A good number of us do not read
music and we have learned new songs. We also enjoy the variety of
music. Our repertoire includes gospel, show/movie tunes, barbershop,
contemporary a cappella, country, doo-wop, musical show tunes, television
shows, and even some favourites from the 50s and 60s! Our variety
of music is what interests our singers.
And when you join us, an integral part of our singing evening includes
instruction of proper singing techniques to help us sing and perform
better. We are all looking to improve our performance level and/or
our voices. We are very fortunate to have two Music Directors who
have attended Harmony University, in the Director's stream, learning
the latest and most effective skills, vocal and directing techniques,
and approaches to singing and directing. Our quality song learning
tracks provide an easy way for singers to learn their music easily
and at their own pace.
You have an open invitation to join us any Tuesday evening. Come
and visit for several evenings to get an appreciation for our members,
our music, why we enjoy singing together each week, why we enjoy
our music, how you can fit in with us, and more. |
